What is DA IGNITE PROJECT?

Da IGNITE Project is a group for artists who have an interest in creating education based works or projects in the visual and/or performing arts in order to reach our community and highlight the issues that relate to the rise of HIV in our commnity. IGNITE in Harlem, based at MTFA dba FACES NY.

IGNITE began as a programmatic outreach intervention with TEACH (Technology Exchange And capacity building for Community Health) program, using the IGNITE Fashion Show to address issues in the GLBT/MSM communities, particularly the House & Ball community. With messages of Safer Sex, HIV Testing, and Anti-Homo/Transphobia scripted in the production of the runway segments, public service announcements, and by the entertainers, The IGNITE Fashion Show was a huge success, and well received by the community overall.

The re-emergence of IGNITE is the birth of new special events, projects, and creative educational workshops. We are looking to work with members of the Entertainment industry, and direct community members to bring about overall health and wellness messages, self empowerment & esteem, community building, public service announcements for our own communities.

Our group meets every Friday from 6-9pm at 121 W. 115th St. Community Room (Basement Level) Harlem NY 10027, located between Lenox and Adam Clayton Powell. We have an Open Mic/Performance Night the last Friday of each month.

IGNITE TV is sponsored by Manhattan Neighborhood Network Community Media Grants 2005, and airs on Cable Channel 34 the first Thursday of each month at 9:30pm.
